Central Processing Unit (CPU).
Control Unit
Different parts of instruction execution happen in different places:Control Unit - fetches, decodes, and distributes decoded instructions to other units.Arithmetic Logic Unit - performs arithmetic and logic instructions on command from Control Unit.Input/Output Unit(s) - performs input/output instructions on command from Control Unit.Memory Unit - stores instructions and data, transfers them to/from other units on command from Control Unit.

Control Unit: this component is responsible for directing the flow of instructions and data within the CPU. The Control Unit is actually built of many other selection circuits such as decoders and multiplexors. In the diagram above, the Decoder and the Multiplexor compose the Control Unit.
Read & Execute instructions provided during execution of Programs.

The instructions that come with the unit explain how to do it. They vary from unit to unit, so there isn't a "pat" answer. If the instructions aren't available, the best bet is to search online for that remote's codes and instructions. The manufacturer of the remote usually has a support page with the instructions and the codes.
This site has good instructions on how to do it on many different cars. Instructions for the Accord is towards the bottom of the page: http://www.ecmtogo.com/removing_ecm.htm
