There is a poison called d-Con, however. The active ingredient is Warfarin (also called Coumadin.)
In humans, that chemical is prescribed as a "blood thinner" or anti-coagulant, for those who otherwise form clots. If a clot breaks free and travels to the lung, it's called a coronary thrombosis, and usually results in death before EMTs arrive on the scene.

I moved into an apartment that had been unoccupied for a year, and the thunder of mice stampeding all night long disrupted my sleep, not to mention the tremendous damage they did. I didn't want to have dead rodents in the walls, stinking up the place, so I got myself a free cat from a neighbor. Boy! In 24 hours, she pretty much eliminated the rodent population. Cat food isn't cheap, but my cat has earned it!
