If you are old enough to be thinking that he might be, then you are probably old enough to ask him. Before you do, sort out in your head what you know about gays and lesbians.

Lesbians and gays are basically born to be lesbian and gay. Their orientation seems to be formed before birth, according to most studies. Remember that he is the same father that looked after you and brought you up. He hasn't changed. You just know him a bit better.

If you are thinking he might be, then you could use your reasoning when you talk to him. "Hey, dad, I've noticed you don't have many women friends." Or, "I've noticed that all your sleepovers are with Uncle Justin". Or something like that. Or you could bring up some well known gay guy and make some approving comment. See where that goes.

If your father is gay, he is probably just waiting for the right time to tell you. So you asking may be just what he wants.

Of course, you might be jumping to the wrong conclusions. Think of that first too!

No. Although there may be a genetic link, being gay does not increase the odds that your parents are gay.

It is very unlikely to have a gay father unless you were adopted. Most gay men understand what is happening to them by middle school.

Men cannot become gay. Sexual orientation is not changeable. Also, whether or not someone is gay has nothing to do with how their father raised them.
