Biceps femoris performs knee flexion.
The semitendinosus and the semimembranosus muscles assist the biceps femoris in the action of flexing the knee joint. The semitendinosus and the semimembranosusmuscles also work together to perform extension of the hip joint.

The long head of the bicep femoris, extends the hip, and it also, along with the short head of the bicep femoris, flexes and externally(laterally) rotates the knee.

The three muscles that aid on knee flexion are the semitendiosus, semimembranosus, and the biceps femoris. None of these muscles are considered the prime mover because they all cross two joints. Therefore all three of the muscles are considered to be synergist.

The main muscles of the knee are the quadriceps (4 muscles which straighten the knee) and the hamstrings (3 muscles that bend the knee).
