It could simply mean he's laying back and relaxing. If you were closer and he had his arm on the back of the couch he could be trying to up the guts to put his arm around you. Since you said you were at the other end of the couch then I would have to say he's relaxing, but it doesn't mean he doesn't find you attractive or that he doesn't like you. He could be shy.
