Japan has, in effect a Captive constitution that was imposed upon her by the conquering allied powers under SCAP- Supreme Command of Allied Powers- Japan being understood. this role fell to General Macarthur. The Japanese constitution, which first of all disavowed any divine powers connected with the Emperor, was essentially written under the guidance of the US powers that be. It allows for Civil Liberties and vastly throttled-back the military establishment. -Even to this day they operate as Japanese Ground self-defense force- sounds like Judo, right, not Japanese Imperial Army, etc. There is a sort of omnibus book called Modern Japan edited by Louis Snyder ( who also did much work historically on Nazi Germany) which should be helpful reading. This was published in l962 so hunt your libraries.
