Vaccum is basically emptiness. There is nothing in vaccum. Light can travel faster in vaccum than in any other medium because there is no obstruction for the passage of light. It is the rarest medium.

it travels so fast that you cant see it!! it travels VERY FAST!

A Better answer The speed of light in free space is a physical constant defined as 299,792,458 metres per second. But for ease of use it's generally 186,000 miles per second, or 300,000 kilometers per second.

In a perfect vacuum, light travels at exactly 299,792 kilometres (186,300 miles) per second. In any other medium, light travels somewhat slower; the exact speed depends on the material and the density.

It travels faster in vacuum because there is nothing to disturb it. In a vacuum it travels 1.0003 times faster than in air.

All light travels at the same speed (assuming that they are all traveling through the same substance). Its frequency and wavelenght to not change its speed.

Does light in air travel faster than radiation from microwave oven?

No, they travel at the same speed.

Does sound travel faster in air a liquid pure oxygen or in vacuum?

Due to the fact that sound does not travel in a vacuum, I would say that it is definitely not in a vacuum. But between oxygen and a liquid comes down to how sound is propagated. Sound is propagated by particles transferring energy by collision (which is why it cannot travel through a vacuum, no particles). Therefore, more particles you have in a given volume, the more likely collisions will happen, thus propagating the wave faster. Thus, sound would travel faster in a liquid due to its higher density.

How does the speed of sound vary in air water solids and a vacuum?

In a vacuum, sound doesn't exist at all, because it needs some sort of medium through which to travel. (Light, however, can travel in a vacuum.) In air, at 20 °C (68 °F), sound travels at 343 meters per second. The speed increases with temperature and varies if different gasses are used. Sound travels much faster in liquids than in air (or any gas). In water, it is about 4.3 times faster than air at 20 °C. In solids, the speed of sound depends greatly on the type of solid, though is generally faster than in air. In lead, for example, it travels at 1960 m/s, but goes 5640 m/s through glass.

What travels the fastest sound in air rocket in space light in vacuum microwaves in glass?

light in a vacuum

Is there any chance for humans to cover light speed?

Anything with a non-zero mass can never reach c (speed of light in a vacuum). Anything with a zero mass can only travel at c (speed of light in a vacuum). Photons, the particles of light, have zero mass. That said things with a non-zero mass can travel faster than the speed of things with a zero mass, when they are traveling in a medium (e.g. air, water, glass, diamond). However when they do so they emit Cherenkov Radiation (usually a blue to violet glow) in their direction of travel. This is very loosely the light equivalent of the sonic boom shockwave when something travels faster than the speed of sound in a medium. This radiation eventually slows them down.

What does sound go faster through a vacuum or a solid?

Sound does not travel in a vacuum. It needs a medium in which to travel (unlike light) and so sound cannot travel in a vacuum. However, in a solid sound travels faster than in air.

What materials can light travel through faster than it travels through air?

Light travels fastest through space which has no air. Space is a vacuum which is the fastest way for light to travel.
