Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe in a unique brand of gender equality. Mormons believe that "gender is an essential characteristic of individual identity and purpose" and that men and women are equal in value but different in purpose. Mormons have both women and men preach, teach, and lead in the church, but men generally oversee the operations of the church (i.e. the Priesthood) while women generally oversee the outreach and service of the church (i.e. the Relief Society). Men are expected to provide for and protect their families, women are expected to nurture and teach - but both are to help one another as equal partners as one responsibility is not more important than the other. The different roles and responsibilities expected are due to the innate, God-given personalities and talents of the different genders. Mormons are unique in that they believe that individuals cannot achieve the highest degree of heaven alone - they must be sealed to a member of the opposite gender and work together in equal unity in order to achieve their highest purpose.
As far as other aspects of sexual equality - Mormons believe that sex is only permissible within in a legally recognized heterosexual marriage. Premarital sex, extramarital sex (adultery), and homosexual acts are all sinful. Mormons believe that homosexuals should have equal treatment under the law and have supported legal measures to guarantee equality in housing, employment, etc but do not support the legalization of same-sex marriage. (Many Mormons do support 'domestic partnerships' with the same legal rights as marriages, however.) Gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc Mormons are welcome to be baptized, ordained, and hold most positions within the Church but are expected to refrain from homosexual relationships.
