No. Penicillin can cause yeast infections. Yeast is a form of fungus that we always have in and on our body. Using penicillin to cure a bacterial infection also kill off the good acidophilus in your intestines.

Acidophilus keeps the candida in the intestine in check. Once that balance is tweaked, it can take a long while to get back in order, without help. The candida can literally grow wild, driving you a little wild at the same time. One way to get more acidophilus is to eat live-culture yogurt. The other is lactobacillus -- acidophilus supplements. The live colonies, (containing at least one billion organisms per capsule). You don't need a prescription. Your pharmacist or health food stores, should have this in their refrigerator. Check the expiration date before purchasing and keep it refrigerated.

Take two capsules of lactobacillus -- acidophilus, twice a day, one hour before eating, During the full course of antibiotics. Or for 2 weeks after finishing penicillin for severe yeast infection. You will start to feel a difference fairly quickly, this will help decrease candida in both your vagina and your intestine.
