Usually not.Pure powdered (or confectioner's) sugar will compose solely of sugar and thus will have no grain (and thus, no gluten) in it.

However, most packages of powdered sugar (including all US-sold packages according to research) will add in some corn starch to help keep the sugar powdery. Corn starch does contain some gluten; however, it's a different kind of gluten than that normally associated with celiac disease. Check with your doctor.

actually most often cream of tartar ( also an ingredient of baking powder), is a byproduct of wine making and making wine uses popular animal-derived fining agents used in the production of wine include blood and bone marrow, casein, chitin, etc.

Not all confectionery sugar is vegan due to the refinery process, but Florida Crystal is a vegan brand.

try mixing it with lemon juice until it turns into a paste, a nice cake topping!
