No they don't kill you! We natives of Caribbean islands enjoy them whenever we go to the beach. And some people collect them to make a jelly with them. They are ready when they're red. The softer ones are sweeter. There is not much flesh on them, the seed is huge with just a bit of flesh around them. But their flavor makes up for that - a lot of flavor in one plump red one. The flesh is denser than that of a true grape, in other words, not liquidy.
I haven't found studies of them, but somewhere there must be one. Their intense wine red (or purplish red) tone must indicate a lot of nutrients and antioxidants. The color is a cross between the açai berry and the goji berry. So when you go to the beach in Florida or the Caribbean, enjoy them.

A raisin is a dried up grape, if it is placed in water it will absorb water and regain some of its original shape and size. The process involved is called osmosis. It happens when areas of high concentration (the sugar solution inside the raisins) is separated from an area of low concentration (the water outside the grape). Physical forces try to balance the concentrations so the water passes through the grape skin (technically a semipermeable membrane) into the grape and plumps it up.

No, a sea grape is not a simile. A sea grape is a type of plant that grows along coastlines in tropical regions, often used in landscaping. A simile is a figure of speech that compares two different things using "like" or "as."

None of the above: grape vines are plants (producers) not consumers, although they can displace and kill other plants in their pursuit of water sources.
