The cell membrane helps a cell maintain homoeostasis by regulating the movement of substances in and out of the cell. The cell membrane is a lipid bilayer which is selectively permeable to substances.
The simple answer is osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of water from a dilute solution to a more concentrated solution through a semi-permeable membrane*. Any animal in freshwater has a higher concentration of dissolved substances in its cells than the surrounding water. A Paramecium is enclosed by a semi-permeable cell membrane, which lets water in but prevents most dissolved substances leaking out. Under these conditions osmosis will occur and the cell will gain water. To prevent itself swelling up and bursting Paramecium has a contractile vacuole, a structure in the cell which fills up with water and periodically expells it back into the surroundings. * The semi-premeable membrane is also called partially permeable or selectively permeable, which all mean basically the same thing.
A vegetable strainer is similar to a selectively permeable membrane because it only allows certain materials to pass through. A strainer filters the large particles such as vegetables, but allows water to permeate.
the same as that to potassium
CNS is an acronym for Central Nervous System, thus they are the same thing.
Selectively permeability is a property of biological membranes that allows them to regulate the passage of substances across them. In spite of heavy traffic through them, cell membranes are selectively permeable, and substances do not cross the barrier indiscriminately.
cell walls are semi-permeable, that is, they selectively permit only certain things through.
Osmosis is the same thing as diffusion, but occuring only with liquids in a selectively permeable membrane. An example of this is that water entering your cells is osmosis, but oxygen entering is diffusion.
Diffusion across a membrane in biology is referred to as 'osmosis' & osmosis is the process by which solvent molecules move from a region of high conc. to low concentration and this can therefore occur only in one direction at a time for a perticular solution. this is a really smart answer im surprised
An impermeable membrane is that through which no substance can pass. Semipermeable membranes are those that let only solvents, like water, to pass through it. Permeable membranes are those that let solvent and solutes, like ions and molecules, to pass across it. There are also selectively permeable membranes, i.e., membranes that besides allowing the passage of solvent, let only some specific solutes to pass while blocking others. See link:

These two words can mean the same thing.
