The actual surgical procedure shouldn't hurt at all, as you should be under anesthesia with analgesics the whole time. However, the surgical site will be sore and tender, and possibly painful, for a few weeks after the surgery while your tissues heal. Most surgeons are good about prescribing adequate pain medication to control the worst of it, but some residual discomfort can be expected.
