Yes! I am thoroughly convinced it can.

Normally, I get one or less cold sore per year (unless I have a severe virus, severe stress, or eat dairy).

A month ago, I began taking 1000 mg. per day of l-glutamine to try and heal damage to my stomach lining caused by the use of nsaids. I am now suffering my *third* cold sore since I began l-glutamine (within one month!).

Although I can't find an internet source to verify my theory, I suspect an overload of l-glutamine, like arginine, can off-balance lysine. A deficiency of lysine can cause cold sores in those of us who carry the virus.
