I assume you're talking about the 4-cylinder engine, and yes, it is a non-interference engine. The pistons have "cutouts"to prevent the valves hitting them in case the timing belt breaks. This doesn't apply to the V6, of course, since it has a timing chain, rather than a belt.

is the 2000 grand am sedan 2.4 twin cam an interferance motor
Yes , according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc. ) it is NOT an interference engine
I believe that this is the same engine used in my 2000 Ford Contour, which is a non-interference engine (luckily) as I'm having to replace the timing belt now after losing about 8 inches of teeth! Robert G.
I believe this is not relevant as the 2.5L engines use timing chains and not timing belts. No required maintenance- no belt to break.
Interference.Interference.
no it is not an interference engine

According to Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) The SOHC engine IS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE The DOHC engine is NOT an interference engine in the 2000 Ford Focus
4 cylinder engine is an interference type. V6 is not.
