I don't Know what type or how big you Aerostar is but I have a 95 3.0 v6 and it weighs 3370 lbs. I only know this because I got the weight during the annual inspection that's required by some states.
IF it is the same as the 1997 3.0L, then remove the engine access cover inside the vehicle. It is atop a shaft called a synchronizer at the rear top of the engine. It is attached with two small bolts.
95 - 105 Ft. lbs.
will it not pull at all or just not well?? Could be low on transmission fluid if its having trouble moving when in drive.... I know i have seen it happen on a 95' ford aerostar, not an 89 though... If it doesn't move at all, perhaps shift linkage is not putting transmission into gear. check under van to inspect linkage.
