Yes it does. note the lyrics- another year over, a new one JUST BEGUN. This puts Christmas AFTER New Year"s Day- and it is -January 7Th in the Russian Orthodox (and other Orthos) tradition. I liked the female vocal version of this song- seems to suggest not Saint Nick, but well, his Four Daughters in exile in the wilds of Siberia!

Can the best man not be orthodox to marry a couple in orthodox church?

The best may is allowed to be non-Orthodox. This is because Orthodox weddings do not actually include a best man. The tradition of best man is a Western one, so because it is not an Orthodox tradition, the best man is allowed to be non-Orthodox.

Is Christmas day air flights busy?

In most airports, it is actually less busy because most people travel before of after Christmas because they want to be with their family. Though if you are not like that, travelling on Christmas day is perfect.I'd like to know answer to this too - i have changed my flight from boxing day to Christmas day next year and saved money - is this because it is not popular to fly on Christmas da? Are we talking about Christmas day according to the western tradition? Or are we talking about Christmas day according to the eastern orthodox traditions? I bring that up because of the last word in the previous paragraph? "Da" indicates the respondent was perhaps of Russian decent which would indicate that Christmas is determined according to the eastern orthodox tradition, which would be January 7th.

How could a Muslim celebrate Christmas?

A devout or orthodox Muslim would not celebrate Christmas because Christmas is a Christian holiday and Muslims accept only their own religion. Indeed, in some Muslim countries, it would actually be illegal for a Muslim to celebrate Christmas since this might be seen as an insult to Islam. However, if a person is a less than orthodox Muslim, such a person might feel free to make up his or her own mind about religious issues, and might possibly decide that it's fun to celebrate Christmas, so why not do it. Or perhaps a Muslim has some Christian friends and sees no reason not to join their social activities. Such people do exist.

Why is Jesus baptism tied in with Christmas?

Well, Christmas is when Jesus was born and I don't think he had a baptism. You get a baptism if you are Christian or Catholic, but Jesus was actually Jewish. The Christian religion wasn't invented until 33 years after Jesus died.

Do orthodox Jews celebrate Hanukah?

Whether they are Orthodox, Conservative or Reform, Jews do not celebrate Christmas. That holiday commemorates the birth of Christ (which originally meant "messiah"). It is Christians, not Jews, who recognize Christ as the messiah, which is why Christmas is part of the Christian religious tradition and not part of the Jewish religious tradition. Sometimes people say that Jews celebrate Hanukkah "instead of" Christmas. That statement may reflect modern appearances, but it isn't historical nor is it accurate. Unlike Christmas, Hanukkah is a minor holiday (actually, it is a festival like Passover, but a minor one). It commemorates a Jewish refusal to assimilate and be like other members of the broader, non-Jewish society and government. For Jews and others to treat Hanukkah as if it were "the Jewish Christmas" is to miss the point.
