it depends on what the tax is for .

He must pay federal income tax on his salary and other income- many Presidents in the past would make their tax returns public.

All members of Congress, President, etc., etc., are subject to taxes lie everyone else, on all income.

In fact, most all public officials of any nature even have it worse than Joe Blow, because: They are under absolute scruitiny of the penny of what was spent how it was, etc. While some officials returns are disclosed essentially by law, now almost all even pretenders, (you will recall Senators McCains wife (who inherited family wealth and personal business matters), was forced to disclose all her financial and return info, even though it was not connected to him. There are many other cases how bizarre was it that a siting US VP was condemned and fined for using a phone in the whitehouse to make a call that was considered a personal/campaign call and not a business one!

Anyone that is trying to tell you that elected officials get special financial and tax treatment is simply too ignorant to be trusted for much anything. Use your own common sense. (Even wonder why the person saying it, is so well informed and smart, they are probablky doing what they are, for miniscule compensation and appreciation, and those he's speaking about are doing what they are)?
