Depending on your state, you would probably take the title to the DMV with his name and signature on it and pay for a new title. However, if the title still has an open lien on it, then you will have to have a letter of authorization from the bank indicating their approval (notarized) to have a new title processed. The bank will require the second person apply for credit and be approved, including signing additional documents in person, to be added ot the title/loan. This would also require they be added ot the car insurance .

she is a co owner of the vehicle. Who ever has the vehicle will need the other signature to sell it. in most states you can register the vehicle in either name or both.

Can a co-owner take a car from the co-signer?

A cosigner has no legal rights to a vehicle unless his or her name is on the title. If the cosigner's name appears on the vehicle title then he or she is also a co-owner of said vehicle and any dispute in possession and ownership may need to be decided through legal procedures.

Can you sell your car to Carmax if you do not have the title?

As far as I understand it you cannot sell any motor vehicle to an automotive dealership without the title. Also if the vehicle is not titled in your name the said individual seen on the title would need to be present. The process to getting a title for your vehicle if it has been lost is simple as long as you are the registered owner of the vehicle. The process for acquiring a replacement title is called bonding the title. If you are not the owner on the title the same "bonding" applies it just requires you to get the previous owner of the vehicle involved in the process with a proper bill of sale and or other means of proof that you have taken "ownership" of the vehicle.

Car with a co-signer being the the primary owner how can you get there name of and just have your name on the car?

If their name is on the Certificate of Title they would need to sign over the title to you. You would need to submit the Title to your state Department of Motor Vehicles so that it can issue a new Certificate of Title in your name as sole owner.

How is a parts only title converted to a regular title?

If the previous owner signed off on the vehicle as "parts ONLY", then that means that the title is non-transferable. When a vehicle is sold as parts only, there doesn't even have to be a title. It could just be a slip of paper stating that's how the vehicle was sold; however, if you're a LICENSED OWNER of one of the above, you can claim the vehicle as abandoned/salvaged/auctioned, ect. which you would need proof of, and then the DMV would issue you a new title in your name stating one of the above or something similar.

Are you still liable for a car you sold if the title is still in your name?
