A constitution should be inflexible; a person should not be able to interpret its contents in a number of different ways, but in one way that is fair for all. Amendments allow a constitution to be updated and corrected to reflect the changes in society, but not so that it can be changed on a flimsy whim.
It is the fourth longest Constitution in the world. Because it is so detailed and specific, it must be amended frequently as times and circumstances change.

The Constitution is amended because times change. As new things happen, you have to update the foundation.Like slavery and women's rights, the founding fathers couldn't set anything protecting women's rights or abolishing slavery because of the time they lived in.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a line-item veto is unconstitutional because the U.S. Constitution specifies that when presented with a bill that has been passed by Congress, the President's choices are limited to either signing the bill, making it a law, or returning it to where it originated along with his/her objections to it. Therefore, line-item veto power requires that the U.S. Constitution be amended to expand the President's choices when presented with a bill that Congress has passed.
Although the founding fathers were brilliant in creating a foundation for government in America, they knew that the Constitution was far from perfect. That is why the constitution is known as a living document because as society changes (ex. abolishing of slavery) the constitution changes as well. The constitution can be amended and new clauses can be added.
States have amended their constitutions as the powers and duties of state governments changed. Alabama, for example, has amended its constitution some 650 times since it was ratified in 1901.
They change it to Constitutional Convention because Articles of Confederation was to weak.
