this vehicle has a separate transmission control module locatedright next to the engine control module. The TCM will put go into limp mode if one of the solenoid circtuits or other inputs are missing. it tests the solenoids in the solenoid pack every ten seconds by either turning them on or off for a couple of miliseconds and then looking for the electrical inductive kick that would be caused by this. if the inductive kick is missing the the TCM will shut down the TCM power relay and the vehicle will default to 2nd gear only. if the fault is intermittent, turning the vehicle off and then on again will reset the TCM. AND APPARANTLY THE TCM'S IN THIS VEHICLE ARE PLAUGED WITH PROBLEMS. even when a new ( rebuilt ) TCM is ordered from the dealer ( new not avail anymore ) they still have problems with the l/r solenoid circuit driver. ther have been cases of techs needing to install as many as 7 rebuilt TCM's before finding one that isn't internally faulty. THANKS Dodge!!

Transmission control protocol
It is the computer that controls the transmission functions.
Trouble code P0700 means: Automatic Transmission Control System Malfunction
The PCM. Power train control module / computer is what controls the transmission.
The transmission is controlled by the engine computer. It can be replaced.
The engine computer is next to the battery. The transmission computer is under the hood on the pass side. The body computer is under the dash on the driver side. The airbag computer is under the center of the dash. The HVAC computer is the ac control head. The ABS computer is above the transmission case. The engine computer is next to the battery.
