There is no law that prevents a family member from working in your private business. However, it is imperative that all state and Federal Laws be observed, as if the family member were any employee. For example, you must withhold taxes, including medicare and social security, and issue a W-2 at the end of a calendar year. There are other laws, governing such things as maternity leave, overtime, etc.
