The steering is what controls the gauge in cruise control. This is in any car or truck.
The ECM is what controls all the electronics in a truck. The is what controls it in all cars.
Bad gauge and/or coolant temp sensor The coolant temp sensor doesn't control the gauge. There is a sensor in the head on the driver's side that controls the gauge. It is fairly easy to get to, probably one of the only things on a 4th gen. lol

Older models, no. Current models, unlikely. But it would be good to know what year and model, eh? Overall, the FPR controls the fuel pump only.
I've had my tailights and gauge lights go out synomonously, and found the problem to be a fuse. Under your hood check the fuse box (should be labelled taillights) or w/e and make sure it's not blown, if it is don't worry only change to get a box of them.
