No. The Romans spoke Latin which is the basis for all Romance Languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Romanian). The Spaniards conquered southwestern North America, Central America, and South America (except Brazil which was Portuguese). All these conquered lands spoke one of two languages based on Latin so it was natural to identify the area as "Latin America".
