Does the oil dipstick location tell you what year the Chevy engine is like on the right pre 80's?

From 55 until 86, the dipstick was on the driver's side, using a hole in the block casting between #'s 5 & 7
From 86 to the end of the first gen run, the dipstick was on the passenger side, going directly into a hole in the oil pan. These engines also had raised-rail heads with center bolt hold downs, and one-piece rear main seals.
