It depends on the type of vehicle.
ANSWER: THERE ARE 2 TYPES 1. THE FRONT BRAKES ARE USUALLY THE DISC TYPE 2. THE REAR BRAKES ARE DRUM TYPE HOPE THIS ANSWERS YOUR INQUIRY--SAINTJINO
They are numbered from the front of the engine to the rear 1-2-3-4
I don't remember 1985 Chevy 1/2 ton pickupshaving rear disc brakes. It should be a drum brake in the rear and disc brakes in front.
The three types of brakes are Pedal, Hand and Chin brakes. 1 Drum brakes on all four wheels 2 Disc brakes on front, drums on rear 3 Disc brakes on all four wheels.
Usually the rear pads or brake shoes depending on whether or not the back brakes are disc or drum brakes will last 2 times longer the the front brakes. 75% of your braking is done by the front brakes. For example, if you have 60,000 miles and your front pads need to be replaced the rear ones will only be about 1/2 worn out.
If the rear brakes are drum brakes remove the wheel slide the drum off and check brake lining if brake lining is good then at the bottom of the brake assembly turn the adjuster wheel out. Check by putting drum on and spinning the drum until it spin 1 to 1 1/2 times around. If the car has rear disc brakes check brake pads probably needs to be replaced
If they are disc brakes it's not an easy job. (Discs were on rear from about '96 -2000) - You will need a special tool to compress and wind the piston in . Can be done with long nose pliers, but very difficult. I can do most car things very quickly, but each rear on these takes me about 2 hours. - valuable tip - clean and de-rust the emergency brake spring and cable thoroughly after replacing the pads.
Don't understand question. If it has rear drum-type brakes it will have a pair (2) brake shoes contained within the brake drum. This is normal.
I actually had to manufacture a part to change the brakes, because none of the piston tools fit the Mazda 3. Once you have everything off (tires, rotor, cliper) will will have to release the valve so that the pressure can be relieved. You will see 2 small indentions on the piston. You will have to alternate between turning that piston head and compressing the piston with a clamp. It took me a long time, and I broke a clamp before I realized you have to turn the piston head. I will try to get somes pics when i do it again to show everyone.
Front to rear 1-2-3-4. Firing order is 1-3-4-2 Distributor rotates clockwise.
Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 Pass front to rear 2-4-6-8 driver front to rear 1-3-5-7
Sounds like the springs or spring that pulls the shoes back in after the brakes are released are broken. Therefore the shoes are hung in the drums and the wheel is locked up. DRUM BRAKES ONLY.Disc brakes---- Caliper piston frozen are brake line bad / came apart inside. These 2 things will lock brake up.
