In most states the plates stay with the car. If it gets repo'd it will definitely be taken with the plates on it. If you are in a state where you keep the plates, they will give them back to you with your bag of personal items.
I am not aware of state where they give you back the plates. Remember that the plates are registered to the car, so once the car is gone the plates are essentially useless to you.
Also, if you happen to be asking this in order to somehow try to evade the repo or avoid it in some way...don't try. You may hide it for a few days, maybe a month, but eventually they will get it and you'll just owe them more money in the long run. Also, putting wrong plates on the car is not going to work (haha). Repo guys check the VIN number.
Thanks.
Yes...thats what repo-men do.

Legally, no. This would fall under wrongful incarceration or kidnapping. The repo agent can block the vehicle in until that person gets out and then hook the unit. If the person re-enters the vehicle afterward then all bets are off. If the police are called in this situation, someone is likely to go to jail for breach of peace, and the repo agent has a legally binding notice of repossession.
He's not allowed to repossess your baby. Note: Child welfare service workers are not repo men; they CAN take your baby.
The repo man will pick up the vehicle anytime and anywhere he can do it while watching out for his personal safety. Repo men have been shot at, cursed at, hit, and everything in-between from the person whose vehicle is being repossesed. I would think that night time would be the safest time for a repo.
