What would be keeping a car from restarting after getting a jump if it has a new battery?

New batteries require charging before they are used. Try charging the battery with a home charger (dont let the alternator charge it as it will decrease the life of the alternator) and give it a try.

Can a bad starter keep your alternator and battery from charging?

YesFirst if the starter is bad the car will not start, if it will not start it can not charge the battery. If the starter will not work it can mean there is an electrical problem that will also prevent the alternator from charging the batteryThe starter itself CAN NOT CAUSE CHARGING PROBLEMS!The extra load on the battery can ruin the battery and that can ruin the alternator. But before that NO.

Your volts light came on in your 1995 Chevrolet Lumina What is wrong?

You need to check your battery and alternator, to start with. If you're lucky it'll be something simple like those two. Sometimes you can get local auto parts stores to check them it for free. Typically that means that the alternator isn't charging. Many auto parts retailers will test the charging system at no cost. Their hope is that you'll buy the replacement parts from them. An automobile will run for a while after the alternator stops charging, but when an alternator is not replacing the electrical current the battery will eventually discharge and without recharging the battery SOMEHOW, with either a functioning alternator or an outside charger, the engine will eventually fail to start.

What keeps a battery charger from over charging a battery pack?

Most good battery chargers are automatic and will stop charging when the battery is fully charged. But if the charger is a manual charger it can overcharge the battery. With this type charger it is up to you to remove the charger when the battery is fully charged. Normally this is based on the amount of time the charger takes to charge the battery pack. Operators manual will list the time.

How many parts does the charging system have?

The charging system on modern cars has 2 parts. The alternator and battery. On older cars there is also the voyage regulator. On modern cars it is built into the alternator. The electrical system however has many more parts.Alternator, voltage regulator, and alternator belt. The batteries themselves are part of the cranking system, not the charging system.
