The M16 series may be different today, but during the Vietnam War on the last round (from either a 20 or 30 round magazine) the bolt and dust cover stayed open on the final shot. All you had to do was slap another magazine into the well and snap the bolt release button which slammed the bolt closed...then give the forward bolt assist (located on the right side) a quick strike with the heel of your shooting hand to ensure the old jungle rifle was ready to fire.

The bolt will lock to the rear. Look inside the ejection port and make sure the magazine is empty and the chamber is clear; visual verification will be enough.

Where did the saying lock and load come from?

lock you have to lock the bolt to the rear in order to chamber a round id imagine.could also mean the quick loading of a general purpose machine gun(gpmg) for firing.you pull the bolt to the back which then locks into the trigger mechanism, open the top cover to load the ammunition belt. then close top cover. this means the gun is ready of immediate firing. when the trigger is pulled the bolt moves forward picking up the round, moving it to the chamber and firing.

What slide position after last round fired?

well if your talking about a pistol slide and not a rifle bolt in a semi automatic rifle. handguns will automatically lock the slide back in the open position allowing the shooter to know they have expended all the ammo in that mag and allow for an easy quick reaload and rechambering of the first round of the next mag by releasing the slide catch

Why does PO8 luger jam on last round?

It doesn't actually jam. When the last round is spent, the breech lock automatically stops the breech from closing again. This is used for reloading. When you have inserted a new magazine, you can release the breech lock, allowing it to close. The hammer will be cocked and a new round will be chambered. This is faster, and allows you to reload the gun with one hand. This system applies to most modern day guns.

How do you get a trigger lock off a gun without the key?

Take it to a locksmith. Ummm...thanks tips. To get a trigger lock off yourself that you have lost the key for, you can simply drill out the lock mechanism (where the key goes). A drill press is the best for this. For the combo locks with a sliding cover, you can just hit the cover sharply with a hammer and it will break the lock mechanism, releasing the lock. These trigger locks were made primarily to keep kids fingers off guns, not for national security.
