When people are under the influence of any drug or alchoholic drink, they tend to say things that they might not say when completely sane or sober. At times, the person will have no recollection of what they said when they were in a drunken stupor the day or night before.
You might approach the sober boyfriend and ask him directly "did you mean what you said last night about loving me?"
