It's probably not good for him. You should of called your vet when it happened. When dogs eat more than their stomach can hold the lining in their stomach and intestines could rupture and cause internal problems like bleeding and infection. Some cases are called bloated and its a lot worse in dogs than it is in humans. The food in meant to expand in the stomach to create a fullness sensation. When a dog eats a lot of food the stomach expands beyond capacity and could rupture. Not good.
Some times the dog ends up fine after eating a lot of food.
