as far as i know, all 2.7L 4-cylinders have a timing chain. the v-6 engines have a timing belt. this is what my haynes manual states, at least.

my mechanic says it has a timing chain, but I've read where others say it has a timing belt. I need to know so I'll know when/if it needs changing. I have 117,650 miles on the 2004 Honda Odyssey EXL. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) the 3.5 liter V6 engine in a 2004 Honda Odyssey has a timing BELT ( change at 105,000 miles normal service , or 60,000 miles severe service according to the Gates website , they seem to list the manufacturers recommendations on their website )

The Ford 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine has ( 3 ) timing chains A main chain from the crankshaft to the jackshaft at the FRONT of the engine , a chain from the jackshaft to the drivers side cylinder head at the FRONT of the engine , and a chain from the jackshaft to the passenger side cylinder head at the REAR of the engine ( also if it is a 4x4 I believe it has a chain for a balance shaft )
