If you are certain that you haven't recently run over somebody's dog, you might want to look at your Constant Velocity (CV) joints. If the sound gets worse when you turn sharply, that is a dead-giveaway symptom of needing a new CV joint. If that isn't it, your disk brakes might be metal-to-metal.

What does a clicking sound near the front end of a Hyundai Sonata indicate?

A clicking sound coming from the front end indicates there is something wrong with the axle on that side of the front end and that it might fail. When the clicking sound becomes very audible, have the axle checked. It might cost about $250 to replace the axle. The "axle" is not the type of axle that goes all the way across the car from one wheel to the other. It is only a joint between the front wheel on that side and the steering mechanism.

How do sound vibrations reach the cochlea?

Sound waves cause the thin skin of the eardrum to vibrate. This vibration, in turn, vibrates a chain of three tiny bones which are attached, at one end of the chain, to the eardrum, and at the other end of the chain, to a thin drumlike structure on on the opening to the cochlea. The vibration of this "round window" as it is called, causes the fluid inside the cochlea to flow, which in turn causes tiny hairs inside the cochlea to move. These hairs, when moved, send signals to the brain which are interpreted as sound.

How does sound waves travel through a material?

Sound waves travel through a material via VIBRATION. When sound waves hit an object at one end, the object's molecules at that end starts vibrating and during this vibratory motion they transfer their energy to neighboring atoms, hence cause a chain vibration and ultimately the waves reach at the other end.
