I had the same problem last night. I drove through flowing water (about two feet deep) made it across fine but about ten yards after I was through my engine started sputtering. I turned the engine off and backed into a parking lot. Then I tried starting it but it wouldn't run. I did some research on-line and found that there are two likely causes for this.
The first is that the cold water splashing up onto the distributor cap on my 1996 escort built up condensation inside causing the spark plugs to fire out of sequence. If this is the case with your vehicle you may remove the distributor cap and ensure that it is dry (or allow the desert heat to dry it out like I did).
The second possibility is that water went through your intake and got inside of your engine. This is bad, but several posts on-line recommended that you flush the oil and remove the spark plugs, then to manually crank the engine (I'm not sure how this would be done exactly) until the water is out. Then put the spark plugs back and some more oil.
I am assuming that it was my distributor cap since I went this afternoon to try to start it and it was normal.
Hope this helps. Remember, "When in doubt, chicken out."-Raugust
Check the trans fluid for water, if you have water you have major problems.
Check for sparkCheck for fuel
Put gas in it.
Yeah, because you drove it into a river, flooded the engine most likely, fired the electrics...and basically destroyed the car. Good going.
Dead battery, out of fuel, failed starter, failed computer, failed fuel pump, etc.
hi you need to cheak the starter tab on the starter and try just tab on the startar a littel not to hard
after the antifreeze is gone the car will have trouble starting due to the lake of antifreeze witch is needed to help it cool down ur car is still over heated your car wont start because you probally blew a head gasket and (possibly warped the head) have water and oil mixing
dirty carb bowl or water in the carb
Possibly the firing order got messed up.
Take off your distributor cap and use a blow dryer to dry out the cap and components. Its possible you have a hair line fracture in the cap.
I have the same problem, it has happened twice on my 2003 Discovery. Towed it to the dealership and they cannot find any fault, it started just fine for them, it is with them right now for 2 days, cannot figure out the problem.
Hi i have a r2 motor and it got hot and then wouldnt start so i replaced the water pump as it was broke and now it wont start it winds and theres spark but wont start
