Andrew Jackson may have been our seventh president, but he was first in many ways. He was the first populist president who did not come from the aristocracy, he was the first to have his vice-president resign and he was the first to marry a divorcee. This was something John Adam spoke about during his canditade running.

Corrupt bargain
The United States presidential election of 1828 saw an unusually large number of personal attacks from the campaign of both Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams. Andrew Jackson's campaign accused Adams of purchasing gambling devices with public funds, when in reality they were a chess set and a pool table. John Quincy Adams' campaign attacked Jackson's wife as a bigamist because her divorce hadn't finalized when she married Jackson.
His tactic was to smear his opponent John Quincy Adams and to appeal to the commoners. He won the 1828 presidential campaign as a Democrat.

John Quincy Adams was not reelected into presidential office in 1828 due to his opponent's strong campaign. Andrew Jackson started "mudslinging" and cause a poor public opinion of Adams.

John Quincy Adams served as President from 1825 to 1829. After a particularly scandalous campaign on both sides, he lost the 1828 election to Andrew Jackson.
