A safety inspection usually begins with an opening conference between the inspector(s) and management, sometimes also including employee representatives. This is followed by a walk-through during which the inspectors may talk with employees and supervisors, ask questions of their management contacts, make notes, take pictures, and perhaps perform simple tests. After a time to review notes and consider what they have seen the inspection will end with a closing conference between inspectors, management and employee representatives at which tentative conclusions and possible improvements are discussed. A formal report containing specific recommendations, or a notice of citations (depending on the nature of the inspection) will generally follow. There is usually a time limit for responding to the recommendations or citations.
