The small continent in the southern and eastern hemisphere is called Australia.
The Great Dividing Range (also called the Eastern Highlands) is the mountain range which runs down the complete length of eastern Australia. The Great Barrier reef runs the length of 2300 km parallel to the coast of Queensland. There are many mountains along this range which are close to the reef.
Captain Phillip referred to Australia by the name accorded the eastern half by James Cook - and that was New South Wales.
