The Fifth Amendment covers many rights to people accused of crimes.

The Fifth amendment covers: Grand Juries, double jeopardy and the protection of private property. A clause of the Amendment gives rise to the right against self-incrimination. The relevant portion follows:

"No person shall… be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law…"

This gives rise to the Miranda warnings which includes the protections of the Fifth and Sixth Amendments. It is also related to the search and seizure and warrant requirements of the Fourth Amendment. None of these stand alone. See the related links below for further discussion.

The 5th Amendment states:

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation

It provides several rights. The most notable of which are the right against self incrimination (cannot be compelled to testify against oneself) and the right against double jeopardy (being tried twice for the same crime).
