A company can be both a retailer and a wholesaler if they choose to sale to consumers directly and sell to other businesses at a discount. Typically when this happens businesses will not receive a discount that is extremely low because they are competing with the business that supplies the goods.

You are the new marketing manager of the exclusive distribution company of Sanyo small appliances what alternative distribution channel can use?

There are following channels: a) traditional wholesaler - retailer models; b) Wholesale only; c) Retailer only; Another possible answer: Use Internet. Make a site that caters to people searching certain appliance; give you an example: Sanyo is known and considered the better or best rechargeable batteries maker. So, if you want to sell Sanyo brand rechangeable NiMH batteries, you first find that common battery sizes like the AA are alredy being sold at many many places, like COSTCO, so there is no advantage trying to oursell them, because they are a Giant Store... But if (thanks to Internet) you make a search, then find that the Hobbiyists like those who build and fly RadioControl Airplanes and scale cars are always looking for good prices on good quality rechargeables (like those Sanyo produces), so you get to contact every Hobby Shop and Hobby Internet vendor and offer them better price and service, plus Factory consultancy etc etc. Thas only an example. amclaussen.
