· Connel argues that there are a range of masculinities in the contemporary UK. These are socially constructed sets of expectations about how men should behave, which differ according to class and ethnicity. Hegemonic masculinity is associated with: male supremacy, heterosexuality, aggression and having a laddish behaviour.
Young males may adopt a laddish culture due to the desire 'fit in' to a particular group. This can been seen in the study of Burdsey (2004) in his research on young Asian footballers who found that 'fitting in' was an important factor in determining the extent to which the footballers were consciously prepared to do (hide their Asian identities and adopting a laddish behaviour as the rest of the lads such as smoking and drinking alcohol even though they are not permitted to drink in their religion). People who do not fit in into a particular group may have a result into not being accepted and due tot his reason try to change the way that they normally behave therefore resulting into sometimes a laddish behaviour.
Some young males adopt laddish behavior as a way to conform to social expectations of masculinity, seeking validation and acceptance from their peers. This behavior often involves excessive drinking, risk-taking, and sexist attitudes. It can be seen as a coping mechanism for navigating complex identities and pressures, but it also reinforces harmful gender stereotypes and can lead to negative consequences such as risky behaviors and reinforcing gender inequality.
Sociology is the study of society, social relationships, and human behavior within social contexts. It focuses on understanding how societies are formed, how they function, and how they change over time.
Hydrographic surveys are conducted to map and measure bodies of water. They provide essential information for maritime navigation, coastal engineering projects, and environmental studies. These surveys help identify underwater features, such as depth contours, hazards, and sediment composition, to ensure safe passage for ships and sustainable management of water resources.
Psychology as a natural science focuses on studying the biological and cognitive aspects of behavior, while psychology as a social science examines how behavior is influenced by societal factors such as culture, social norms, and relationships. Natural science psychology often uses more experimental methods and focuses on understanding individual behavior, while social science psychology looks at broader social trends and influences on behavior.
A census collects data from every member of a population, while a sample survey collects data from a subset (sample) of the population. A census provides a complete count and is more accurate, but requires more resources and time. A sample survey is faster and more cost-effective, but has a margin of error as it extrapolates findings from a smaller group to represent the larger population.
Tamworth was the Capital of Mercia. Offa of Mercia is often cited as the first king of England, although it fell back into its regional kingdoms after his death. But I would guess that during his rule Tamworth would have briefly been the capital of England.
