Blood types are determined depending on your genes. For example your mom could have blood type "A" and your dad could have blood type "B" a few possible allele combinations you can have are "AB","A", or "B". I hope this helped!

There are four blood groups: A, B, AB and O. Blood groups are defined by the ABO system.

• Blood group A has A antigens on the red blood cells with anti-B antibodies in the plasma.

• Blood group B has B antigens with anti-A antibodies in the plasma.

• Blood group O has no antigens but both anti-A and anti-B antibodies in the plasma.

• Group AB has both A and B antigens but no antibodies.

There are many different types of blood. AB blood may be negative or positive. A negative factor could be dangerous, if, for example, it is matched with another negative type blood. O positive blood type is the Universal doner and it can be used, for example, in emergency situations, where an injured party may not be able to obtain his or her blood type.
