I think the best way to descibe stages as compaqred to ages is to think of the "terrible twos" It refers more to the mentality of the child rather than their age. This is the stage that a child recognizes itself as an individual able to make decisions. They become more aware of themselves and so the tend to express their needs and wants more not knowing that its not always about them. Not every child goes through at exact 2 yrs old but it is around that age they hit that stage
