A sea star would die if placed in freshwater because the water which is more concentrated outside of the cell, goes through osmosis to try to reach equilibrium this would cause much water to enter the cell and upset the balance of the sea star.
The high sodium content in sea water helps prevent the animals living in it from getting many kinds of fungal diseases and parasites that thrive in fresh water. The salt also prevents fish from going into shock if there is a temp. change or a pressure change. (pressure change e.g. Earthquake, Someone bumped into the tank, ect.)
The salt that they need to survive isn't present in a freshwater aquarium, so when they breathe, no salt goes through their gills and they die. It would be like me putting you underwater.
Because marine fish live in salt water because there found in the ocean.
The cells of the fish will loose too much water and they will die of dehydration.
The fish will die
Whatever the organism is it will die a dreadfully painfull death.
No; clownfish are marine (saltwater) whereas fighting fish/betta's are freshwater fish. They cannot be placed into the same type of water or aquarium.
They're designed for salt water, not fresh water! Just the way they are made. You can get aquarium salt from your local pet store, but don't put any in there if you have other freshwater fish that don't need it. Or get a tropical freshwater fish like mollies instead!
If a saltwater plant were placed in freshwater aquarium then the plant cells would burst. This is because the salt water would make the plant cell allow more water to come in.
the marine fish would pretty much suffocate and die. so putting marine fish in fresh water is not a good idea.
It will die, because they need salt to survive for any great length of time.
They will die if left in freshwater, their cells will burst. Water follows solute
Loss of water through osmosis is what would occur. The protozoan would shrivel up if it did not have a way to replace freshwater in its cells.
Water would diffuse into the cells of the jellyfish, causing it to bloat up and possibly burst.
Explain what would happen if a piece of seaweed from the ocean was placed in a fresh water aquarium?
Sometime osmosis can be harmful for organism. For example when freshwater and saltwater aquarium fish placed in water of a different salinity than that they are adapted to will die quickly, and in the case of saltwater fish, dramatically.
If your water is acid, coral may be of use in buffering the acid since it is alkaline. Otherwise it could well be detrimental. Coral must be properly cleaned before being placed in a freshwater tank.
