Afforestation is the establishment of a forest or stand of trees in an area where there was no forest.[1]Reforestationis the reestablishment of forest cover, either naturally (by natural seeding, coppice, or root suckers) or artificially (by direct seeding or planting).[2]Many governments and non-governmental organizations directly engage in programs of afforestation to create forests, increase carbon capture and sequestration, and help to anthropogenically improve biodiversity. (In the UK, afforestation may mean converting the legal status of some land to "royal forest".) Special tools, e.g. tree planting bar, are used to make planting of trees easier andfaster.Afforestationis the process of establishing a forest on land that is not a forest, or has not been a forest for a long time by planting trees or their seeds. (It is different from reforestation which means planting trees again after they have been cut down.)

increase current global forest cover by 10 percent
Forest cover is the amountin percent of how much the earth is covered by forest.
The largest forest is the Uverito Forest. This planting began in 1966 and it eventually went on to cover an area of around five hundred thousand acres. The forest also triggered a difference in climate change, contributing to an increased incidence of tropical rain. It also led to an increased diversity of animal species that previously did not exist in the area.
Daman and Diu and Delhi have the minimum forest cover.

Forest cover of the country as per the present assesement is 67.71million hactare, which is 20.60% of its total geographical area.out of this,5.46m ha(1.66%)is very dense forest,33.26 million ha is moderately dense and rest 28.99m hais open including 0.44m ha mangroves. However excluding the area (18.16m ha.)not available for tree planting/afforestationdue to climate/rocks etc.,the forest cover of the country comes to 21.81%..
Afforestation refers to planting of trees in order to replenish forest cover. It is a good way to ensure the land gets enough rainfall to support plant life. Afforestation also ensures that wildlife can get a good habitat to thrive.
