There were several types of ancient reptiles that flew. Most famously the pterosaurs such as pterodactyl (Pterodactylus) were the 1st vertibrates to evolve flight.

Also it is quite likely that some species of the Dromaeosauridae family of theropod dinosaurs flew. They were later to evolve into birds. Infact the simularity between Dromaeosauride species and birds have led some scientist to argue for reclassification to birds.

dinosaurs don't have wings!

Edit: '''dinosaurs don't have wings!''' That statement is wrong.

There are around 10,000 species of dinosaur alive today with wings, we call them birds. Dinosaurs have wings made of feathers. There are many fossils of maniraptorian dinosaurs that show wings.

The basal bird Archeopteryx, the dromeosaur Microraptor and the troodontid Anchiornis are some examples.

The famous Velociraptor had quill knobs on its ulna, which show that it too had ''wings''.

Wings in dinosaurs are only found in the theropod group, maniraptora.

If your thinking of pterosaurs like Pterodactylus and Pteranodon then those are not considered dinosaurs.

Flying reptiles were called pterosaurs and lived in the Mesozoic Era with the dinosaurs, becoming extinct at the end of the Cretaceous. Some genera include; PterodactylusPteranodon Ornithocheirus TapejaraRhamphorhynchus Quetzalcoatlus Many probably caught fish. Despite being so large (some of them were large), their bones were hollow, typical of aerial animals. Quetzalcoatlus was about 12 metres in wingspan.

long broad and rounded wings

How small and under-developed wings help birds fly?

Probably better for gliding than flying. Depends on how the birds flap their wings, how big they are and how big their wings are.

What is theory of flight?

Flight is a phenomenon that has long been a part of the natural world. Birds fly not only by flapping their wings, but by gliding with their wings.

Do gliding animals that have evolved structures slow their fall?

Gliding animals have indeed evolved structures that slow their fall. Their wings act as a parachute slowing their fall to the ground.

Do owls have large wings to capture speed?

Owls have large wings to improve lift and help in gliding. Speed is a product of thrust or gravity (altitude change). Think evolution gave them large wings so they can glide efficiently to the prey without making noise by flapping their wings.

Why do birds do not experience gravity during their flight?

They do just like everything else on the planet. They counteract it by flapping their wings and gliding on up drafts.
