User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

French Bulldogs are not typically considered to be the smartest breed of dogs. While they can be trainable and learn basic commands, they are more known for their affectionate and playful nature rather than their intelligence. Other breeds, such as Border Collies or Poodles, are typically considered to be among the smartest dog breeds.

Do french bulldog shih tzu shed?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes and no, bichons do shed but it gets trapped in their coat, which is why they mat so easily. My bichon's tail occasionally leaves a hair or two behind, but never sheds clumps like labs or other shedding dogs.

They shed a medium to high amount. French Bulldogs, however, have very short fur. The shedding is not that problematic, especially if your Frenchie is groomed.

Asked by Wiki User

Frenchies are expensive because they are artificially inseminated and even when they are conceived are expensive to birth because most of the time a C section is needed, so they range from 1000 to 3000 ive even seen some 4000 it all depends on the age the state and the background of the dog.

What dog looks like a french bulldog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Some of these dogs look like a fuzzy Frenchie, especially if their ears are up.

Mixed breeds can inherit a variety of traits from their purebred parents. In the case of my French Bull Tzu, she turned out quite cute, with a typical Shih tzu face and coat, but with the upright ears and stout body of a French bulldog. Temperament wise, she is very sweet, seemingly lacking any aggressive traits. She funny, playful yet mellow, and barks only when playing. Her coat is like that of a Shih tzu, and shedding is minimal. Other French bull tzu pictures I've seen show a smoother coat, so it's not a given that the fluffy coat mine has will result in the mix. The breeder of my dog chose to have her tail cropped (in an attempt to make her look more like a Frenchie, I suppose) but others appear to have kept the tail, which is like that of a shih tzu. A couple of pictures of mine can be seen at: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/f/frenchbulltzu.htm

What is the size and length of a french bulldog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The French Bulldog is a very small breed, even when fully grown. Being only a few inches taller than the Chihuahua the French Bulldog is 11 - 12 inches high at the shoulder (when fully grown).

Puppies are incredibly small and do not grow at a fast pace, they stay small for up to half a year and then begin to grow at normal pace, at around a year the dog starts to grow fast and at 2 years the dog is fully grown.

I hope this is suitable information ;)

What are some French Bulldog Facts?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The French Bulldog is an intelligent, lively, playful, and affectionate dog that makes for a delightful companion or family pet. This mild mannered breed loves people, loves to get involved with family play and activities, and loves life. Sweet natured, humorous, and entertaining, the French Bulldog is a very dependable, well balanced, amiable, and sociable breed. These dogs may be small but they have big personalities. Puppies are very playful and energetic, but will start to calm down as they grow older, although they will still enjoy playing and joining in with activities. The French Bulldog is a sensitive breed, but can also be quite stubborn at times. However, his gentle disposition, intelligence, and obedience means that he is well suited to novice owners as well as the more experienced. The French Bulldog gets along well with other children as well as with other animals, although he may try and hunt very small animals such as rodents. With strangers most will be friendly and welcoming, although some can be reserved. The French Bulldog can make an effective watchdog as he will be vocal if he senses danger. These dogs are very active for their size, and this is something that should be watched, as it can mean danger - for instance, if your French Bulldog falls into a pool he is likely to drown, as most cannot swim. The French Bulldog, in short, makes a wonderful family pet and will get along with practically anyone and anything. However, these are not dogs that will make good exercise companion for those that are very active, as their short muzzles mean that they can get worn out quickly and may be prone to respiratory problems if over exerted. The French Bulldog has a small, compact, chunky build, and a typical pug-like face with a down-turned mouth that makes him look grumpy. However, you can see the intelligence, eagerness, and even a hint of naughtiness in the eyes of these dogs. The coat of the French Bulldog is close, short, and smooth, and the coloring includes cream, brindle, pied, and black and fawn. The weight of the French Bulldog is around 20-28 pounds and the height is around 11-14 inches. The grooming requirements for the French Bulldog are relatively low, which is ideal if you do not have that much time to dedicate to grooming. His short coat needs an occasional brushing to keep it looking good, and you should ensure that the wrinkles and folds on his face are cleaned, and that you check his ears are dry and clean to avoid infection and for hygiene reasons. This is a fairly low shedder on a seasonal basis, and so may prove suitable for those with allergies. The life expectancy of the French Bulldog is around 10-12 years, and there are a number of health problems that are linked to this breed. The short muzzle of the breed means that over exertion can lead to respiratory problems, and they can be very sensitive to extreme temperatures, both hot and cold. Other issues to look out for include HD and elbow dysplasia, elongated soft palate, spinal problems, luxating patella, cataracts, allergies, and thyroid problems. The parents of the French Bulldog puppy should have OFA and CERF certificates, and screening for vWD should also be carried out. The French Bulldog is classed as originating from France, although there is some controversy over the breed's true origins. These dogs became popular as raters in the nineteenth century, and then went on to become popular amongst artists and the like. The breed was registered with the AKC in 1898. The hallmark of the French Bulldog, a close relative of the Bulldog, is the bat ear, which gives an inquiring look to its quaint, short-nosed face. The breed was developed in France by laceworkers who had emigrated from Nottingham, England, in search of higher paying jobs. They took Miniature Bulldogs with them, which they crossed with local breeds, eventually arriving at a breed they named the Bouldogue Francais. Originally two ear types were acceptable: the rose ear, typical of the Bulldog, and the bat ear, which prevailed as correct for the Frenchie. For show purposes the breed may be divided into two weight classes: under 22 pounds and 22 to 28 pounds. Dogs exceeding this upper limit are disqualified from competition. The smooth coat, in colors of fawn or brindle, solid white, or brindle and white, is short, fine and easily tended with weekly brushing. The Frenchie makes an excellent house pet for the less active individual, as its exercise needs are moderate, and it adapts well to any size living quarters. The breed is quiet and well mannered and makes a fine watchdog. It's not a barker, but like all snub-nosed breeds, it tends to snort when excited and snore when asleep. Positive, consistent training works best with this breed. (Editor's Note: Coat colors of solid black, mouse, liver, black-and-tan, black-and-white, and white with black will be disqualified in the AKC show ring.)

Can a french bulldog be a drug dog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you mean by a service dog that smells for illegal drugs than no they can't. This is because their short snouts make them poor "smellers" compared to a German Sheppard dog or Golden Retriever. None-the-less they do still have a stronger sense of smell than humans.
