Life for miners during the Gold Rush was very hard and primitive. Therefore, the men were forced to leave their families behind as they went in search of wealth. As a result, the miners had to deal with feelings of loneliness, and homesickness. Some men kept the lines of communication open by sending letters back and forth. Others succumbed to The Temptations of alcohol and gambling.
There are about 7 people per family in the gold rush.
Men left the family and many times took all the money they had for a grub stake. Many times they never returned or died looking for gold.
