Fiat Punto starts perfectly fine all electrics work and the car doesn't make any suspicious sounds whilst driving but the battery warning light won't go off the dashboard - what is it?

This quite often means your altenater is on the way out and not holding a charge,suddenly you will,without warning have a flat battery.You need to get a garage to check if this is corect.
