The Fire-O-Matic valve is placed in the oil supply pipe of an oil burner heating system to prevent fire from reaching the fuel tank. If the oil burner has an accidental mechanical failure of some sort whereby its automatic controls or safety shutdown controls did not turn the furnace off automatically; then the possibility occurs where the oil burner would keep working (firing) until the furnace became cherry red. When the furnace melts down it may cause the oil tank supply pipe drawing oil from the oil tank to the burner to break open to the atmosphere. This exposes the oil in the oil tank to an ignition source and it could possibly ignite or explode. To prevent this from happening a Fire-O-Matic valve is installed between the oil burner pump and the oil tank next to the boiler. The valve has an internal metal fusible link that holds the valve in the open position under normal operating conditions. The link is made of soft metal similar to lead and made to melt at a certain surrounding air temperature. If the furnace overheats the valve which is mounted next to the furnace will become too warm and the metal fusible link will melt and shut off the fuel supply to try and prevent further damage from a major explosion. Oil burners are dangerous devices that should be worked on by a profession oil burner technician.

What is different between pressure safety valve and temperature safety valve?

Pressure safety valve-are the valve who are designed such that it can control the pressure , like in the water blowers etc,and Temperature safety valve are those who are used to regulate the temperature like, in water boilers.

Which safety valve should be set to discharge at lower pressure drum safety valve or super heater safety vlave?

The Superheater safety valve must be the lowest set safety valve on any boiler, in order that flow through the superheater is maintained. If the drum valve were set lower the flow through the superheater would be disrupted on an overpressure.

Difference between Thermal relief valve and safety valve?

A thermal relief valve is a liquid-only relief due to expansion of a liquid with increased temperature.A safety valve relieves pressure due to a gas.It should be noted that "safety valve" is a general term which could refer to Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) or Pressure Safety Valves (PSVs), terms which are used synonymously in some industries (such as the petroleum industry) to refer to all relief devices in general.

Do all propane tanks have a relief valve?

Propane tanks are required to have a safety relief valve. The relief valve is a safety device on the propane tank to vent excess pressure.

What is blow down pressure of safety valve?

the blowback or blowdown of the safety valve is at least 2 psi and for pressures over 100 psig is 2% of the popping pressure. The blowback is adjusted with the adjusting ring on the safety valve. The blowback is the pressure less than the popping pressure at which the safety valve will reset. Examples: a safety valve set to pop at 15 psig will reseat at 13 psig, the blowback is 2 psi. A safety valve set to pop at 250 psig will reseat at 245 psig the blowback is 5 psi or 2%.

What is Difference between relief valve and safety valve?

Relief valve always position in the suction line in oreder to relief the extra pressure, while safety valve is always placed at discharge line to release excess pressure.I would take that one step further by stating that a " RELIEF VALVE" is one that is "meant" to be lifted off its seat, as opposed to a "SAFETY RELIEF VALVE" which is not!DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RELIEF VALVE AND SAFETY VALVE:1. Releif valve is applicable in the fluid system.safety valve is applicable in the gaseous system.2.Relief valve opening is directly proportional to the pressure rise.Safety valve opening is will happen at after reaching the setpressure.3.Mode of relif vlave line is again connected to the suction. But in the safety valve is just vent-out there is no connection tosuction.
