we got about 150,000 cross country miles on a 1999 before we had to replace the engine. I have over a 130,000 and going strong 1998 I'm a mechanic and have an Eddie Bauer 98 and i have 151,000 with no engine trouble. Ive had the suspension serviced (air ride), replaced the spark plugs and wires and did synthetic blend oil changes myself whenever it was time. I have a 98 Expedition (Eddie Bauer) with just over 245,000 miles. No engine problems. Alternator and Heater Core have been replaced, but no other major problems.

I would take that to be that the suspension springs have been removed and replaced with an air bag suspension system.

Even having them checked will cost you an arm and a leg. I would suggest calling Strutmasters and ordering a conversion kit. You can do away with all of the air ride components and not worry about replacing any of them again. I replaced several units on my Expedition before I called them. I wished I had called them to begin with. I saved a lot of money and got my car fixed. I haven't had no problems since then. There is no more air nothing on my car! No more things to check when it goes low! I love it!

yes. I got a conversion kit from rock auto, had it installed and the ride is as good if not better than before. I had the shocks replaced too.

Welcome to the horror of air suspension. Nice ride when it works, but very expensive when it breaks. I replaced the air pump once, but had problems with it after. So, I found that the best thing to do was just to remove the air bags in the rear and disconnect the pump. Problem, where do you find the right parts for replacement. Answer is at Strutmasters.com 1-866-597-2397 They are in Roxboro, N.C. You can fix the air suspension, although it will be very expensive. Most of the parts will have to be replaced. I bought the coil spring replacement kit, paid around $ Can. Delivered to Montreal Canada $ 220.00. Put the springs in, they also tell you which wire to clip for the air suspension bell, and the car rides just great, yes a little rougher than air, but, no more problems. It still maintains the Crown ride, and no more problems. It is hard to justify such a large expense for air ride on a "96. Good luck.
If wheel barrings are bad how soon should you get them replaced on a 1998 Ford Expedition?
If they are only noisy and are causing ABS problems you can probably drive on them for a bit. Check them often for looseness though as that becomes a safety issue.

It not as hard as it looks. If you can follow the wire down. Then you should be able to change it with no problems. MAKE SURE YOU CONNECT WIRES IN THE CORRECT TERMINAL.
